Day 223 - 12.20.10 - The Lot Across The Way (A Series) - Part One

Across the street from our home is an unused lot and an abandoned 3 flat. A few early days home from work leading up to Christmas makes for some bleak looking dusk time shots...

Day 213 - 12.10.10 - MCA - Viewer Appreciation

Took a trip to the MCA yesterday afternoon... There was an exhibition that explored the role of the viewer in art... It was... engaging...

Day 190 - 11.16.10 - Longman & Eagle

The folks who dole out the much coveted Michelin Stars to restaurants have been visiting Chicago. The recipients of the stars were announced this morning and several Chicago dining establishments earned honors. One such establishment is Longman & Eagle, a tiny whiskey bar in Logan Square. Lauren and I went to see for ourselves tonight... The food was outstanding.

Day 187 - 11.13.10 - Robyn @ Metro

Swedish dance/pop princess Robyn graced Chicago with her presence and rocked a sold out sweat fest at Metro last night. Robyn was certainly not "dancing on her own" on Saturday night...

Day 185 - 10.20.10 - Scenes From the Platform (Part Three)

Day 184 - 10.19.10 - Scenes From the Platform (Part Two)

Day 183 - 10.18.10 - Scenes From the Platform (Part One)

A three part series on some of the typically unnoticed details from Blue Line Platform I stand on nearly every weekday...

Day 182 - 10.17.10 - Street Tagging (Part Two)

Naveen's Cuisine, a small catering / cooking school right up the street from our home, has been hit repeatedly with tagging on the west facade of their studio in the last 4 weeks. I anticipate that this space will be a paint based tug of war in the coming months...

Day 181 - 10.16.10 - Street Tagging (Part One)

As I walked down North Ave., a teen-aged neer-do-well cruised back and forth on a mountain bike. As he passed me three times in the span of just a few minutes, he peaked my interest in his activities. In the bright afternoon light, he brazenly tagged several locations with this illegible (at least to me) design. I'm all for street art, if it is creative and / or interesting. This is just rubbish...

Day 180 - 10.15.10 - Thompson Center

My Blue Line train stops at the Clark & Lake Station, which sits underneath the Thompson Center in Chicago's Loop. Somewhat of a gaudy abomination of glass and colored metal, I walk through this building often, but rarely stop to look up. Today, I did. It was dazzling and a touch nauseating at the same time...

Day 179 - 10.14.10 - Bucktown Pub Trivia

Thursday brought a return to the Bucktown Pub for trivia night with friends Doug and Tommy. We saddled up, had a few beers, named our team The Staten Island Dump, and tested our knowledge of current events and miscellany against a bar full of area hipsters, geeks, and drunks. As usual, we placed high in the standings, but not quite good enough to crack the top three and earn free drinks. Oh well, there is always next Thursday...

Day 165 - 9.30.10 - GAYNGS @ Metro

GAYNGS @ Metro on Thursday night did not disappoint. The diverse and eclectic collective grooved through the tracks on their one and only LP and finished the show with an Alan Parsons cover. That's right. Alan Parsons.

Day 157 - 9.22.10 - The Tallest Man On Earth @ River West

The Tallest Man on Earth put on a stellar show at the Park West on Wednesday night. Armed with one electric and one acoustic, Kristian Matsson expertly plucked and picked his guitar strings and howled his distinctive grisly voice to absolute perfection. It was a great Wednesday night.
