Day Seventy-Nine - 7.7.10 - Back at it...

After a near 3 week hiatus, I got back on the ice for a good skate over at Johnny's. After returning home (our second to last in Park Ridge), my gear was permeated with the foulest of smells. A wash and air dry was long overdue...

Day Seventy-Eight - 7.6.10 - Rain Delay...

Made a trip to enemy territory with Lauren and the In-Laws tonight to take in a ballgame between the White Sox and the Angels. For the first hour and forty-five minutes, the rain was the big winner. It was Polish heritage night. Polka music was played. AJ Pierzynski picked off two runners. I ate a Polish sausage...

Day Seventy-Seven - 7.5.10 - Leaving The Dock

Today marked the end of another enjoyable weekend at Burt Lake. Traffic caused the 6 hour trip home to take 9 hours, but knowing we just had a great time with great friends made the delays a little less annoying and a little more manageable...

Day Seventy-Six - 7.4.10 - Flaming Sparks Emitted From Cardboard Tubes

Happy Independence Day.

Day Seventy-Five - 7.3.10 - Lake Michigan

Near Harbor Springs, Michigan. Lake Michigan beach...

Day Seventy-Four - 7.2.10 - UpNorth

Six hours NNE of Chicago, Illinois, sits Burt Lake, Michigan. A small lake nestled "Up North" in the Northern Michigan woods, The waters of Burt Lake are calm, cold, and pristine. It is a beautiful place, and for the last four years Lauren and I have been lucky enough to join the Winfields and the Lorengers to eat, drink, golf, eat, drink, shoot off fireworks and otherwise celebrate the birth of our nation. This year, we were all joined by Brutus and Lily, the canines pictured above.

Day Seventy-Three - 7.1.10 - Taste Portions

At lunch today, I took a stroll in the beautiful weather to Grant Park and visited the Taste of Chicago. After a few minutes fighting through the crowds, I exchanged some cash for some tickets, and exchanged some tickets for some food. By far, the best bites were offered up by Kasia's Delicatessen. The potato pierogies were delicious buttery pillows of Polish perfection. As good as these pierogies were, they pale in comparison to the pierogies that my Grandma Helen used to churn out of her Ambridge, PA, kitchen. Nonetheless, they filled my pierogi craving until wintertime...

BLOG NOTE - Tomorrow I leave with Lauren and our friends, the Lorengers, for Burt Lake, Michigan, to celebrate the birth of our nation. "Up North" the interwebs are non-existent. I'll be taking photos, but posting will be delayed until Monday or Tuesday. Happy Independence Day. Be safe. Eat a hot dog, a burger, a brat, and a steak. Blow some stuff up.

Day Seventy-Two - 6.30.10 - Bucs Drop The Cubs Again

Yesterday some associates at my firm, myself included, took the summer interns to Wrigley Field for a ball game. It was a beautiful day for baseball... but the baseball, it was not beautiful. Gorzo (pictured), filling in for the mentally indisposed Zambrano, churned out a quality start, but the anemic Cubs offense failed to scrape across even a single run against a rookie starting pitcher with 4.5+ ERA. The Cubs are now 3-9 against the lowly Bucs this season.

Day Seventy-One - 6.29.10 - The Cup Runneth Over

Today, The Stanley Cup made its way to Daley Plaza, and after an hour wait in line with my friend Paulie, we got up close and personal with the greatest prize in all of professional sports. It is more glorious than I ever could have imagined and well worth the wait...

Day Seventy - 6.28.10 - Too Knackered To Unpack

I've returned to Chicago, went straight from Midway to work, and now my bags are home, but not unpacked. For me, there is nothing worse than unpacking, and I'll put it off as long as possible...
